need help w/ information

Post by melissa_annemarie »

Hello...
I am searching for any information on my great grandparents (surname)James Mitchell(could have also used the name Mangione)and Mary Catone.
I believe they came to the u.s in (1888) from Formicola,Italy(I'm not sure if they were married before or after arriving in the u.s.

Welcome to ItalianGenealogy....
Where in the US did the family live? Can you provide the names of their children, and any known birthdates, even a birthyear would help.

Hey suanj :D !
That is a terrific census.

Yes, thanks, Valarie,
we must find the immigration record, so we can know if the spelling is mingione or Mangione; both the surname are rights in Italy, but both exist not in Formicola currently...

you have provided me with great information and I thank you.both spellings are farmiliar to me because my family never knew what the correct spelling could have been but assumed that it was mangione.I know that emmigrants did not or were not given their given name when they came to the u.s(most of them)we know that they came either to n.y through Ellis Island or Canada and do not believe that James and Mary came in together.the cities that we know of are Trot,Saratoga Springs and at one point my parents thought Ballston Spa.
