LOOKING FOR INFO ABOUT MY GRANDFATHER

Post by J9Birdie »

My grandfather, Donato Stefano or DiStefano was born in Avellino, Italy on July 3, 1888. We think he came to the US via Boston. I have had no real luck finding information. Supposedly he came around the 1900's from Naples. Some have said he arrived in 1900, but that would make him only 12 at the time of arrival. Also suggested that he came with a Joseph DiStefano? Any clues or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Janine

Thank you to all who helped me find info about my Grandfather. I can't believe the quick responses and details!!!
I believe my Grandfather arrived in Boston and lived with relatives in Waltham, Massachusetts. When he married my Grandmother Carmela it stated he lived at 11 Felton Street in Waltham and my Grandmother lived at 23 Williams Street in Waltham. They later moved to Bronx, NY.

Dear Janine,
if you want to can get a copy from his real birth record contacting Avellino civil record office, at the following address

Piazza del Popolo
CAP 83100 Avellino - Italy

info@comune.avellino.it

or you can contact your nearest
Family History Library (www.familysearch.org)
This is the microfilm to rent, from Avellino civil records

Nati 1882-1891 FHL INTL Film

Thanks again for all the much needed help!!! Is there anyway to try to find what ship he would have come over on? If he arrived in 1900 he would have had to be with someone because he was only 12 years old. There's a possibility he came with a Joseph Stefano or DiStefano. Any help is much appreciated. Janine

A Joseph Stefano or DiStefano maybe is his father
you can request to NARA to have a copy of the manifest.
Before requesting the manifest check with his birth certificate if Giuseppe (Joseph) is his father
I hope it helps

Unfortunately I do not have his birth certificate, but Joseph was not his father. His father's name was Nicola.
