Finding someone with a possible criminal conviction

Post by donnawright » 12 Apr 2009, 12:46

I have a relative (uncle) who was in the army in 1920, according to the census, and that's the last sight of him at this time. I'm told he was convicted of fraud and given the choice of prison or deportation. He chose the latter, so the story goes.

My mother never talked about this brother other than he died falling down stairs. Don't know where or when. There are other suspicious variations of that story. I was born in 1949, and he was apparently already dead by then (born about 1899)

My question is: Does anyone know how to go about finding a criminal conviction?
