I have the name of my great grandfather, Michael Matera born in Italy in 1867 my great grandmother, Carmella Matera born in Italy in 1876. Also the names of paternal great-great grandparents, Rocco Matera and Carmella Dindia, both born in Italy. I am trying to find their town of origin. I know that Carmella Matera immigrated to US in 1902. San Chirico Nuovo was listed as last residence on ship manifest. That has been the only town reference I have been able to find.
Thanks for the help!

I believe Michele too was from San Chirico Nuovo (but I was unable to find proof ), however you may be able to find his exact birth place on his naturalization documents.
From the 1910 census we know he filled out the First papers for the process, while from the 1920 census we know he was naturalized...
I found on the web this interesting article:

and especially this one:

You should try to contat the archives and ask for a research for Michele Matera Naturalization document....
Or, as you know (from the 1902 arrival manifest) that the first daughter Antonia was born possibly in San Chirico Nuovo, you should try to ask for her birth act where the names and places of birth of the parents are listed....
Personally, I'd advise you to ask for the naturalization documents....
Good luck!
