The names are from the Italian white pages
I do not speak Italian, There are many others on this site who are able to help you write a letter to Italy.

Alicia - I went back to the Australian government websiteI linked in my earlier message and put ASSUNTA CANNELLA in the Keywords box then clicked the Search button.

Sometimes when you do this you get a Login page. If so, just click the Login button and then click the Guest button to login as a guest user.

Now, you will see a screen which looks like the picture below. You see it says that Assunta Cannella arrived by aircraft 23 September 1948. Does that sound like your grandmother? If yes, then click on "ITALIAN/CANNELLA ASSUNTA" and on the next page click "More information about this item".

Are you near Melbourne? If yes, you can now click "Request Issue" to have a copy of the file sent to the "Melbourne Reading Room" (wherever that is) for personal review. If you are not near Melbourne, click the Request Copy button to order a copy for viewing online or color photocopies to be mailed to you. There is a charge for this service; I don't know why I was able to view the other one for free - perhaps because they weere older. At this point, you may want to telephone the Archives (1300 886 881) with any questions before you place an order. It would be nice if you could find out in advance what documents are in the package...

[edit] Atttachments deleted.

Hi Alicia,

My ggrandfather was Sostene Scicchitani and he was from Sansosti in Calabria. His parent were Rosario and Rose. I know it's a slightly different spelling but it seems that happens quite often when people immigrated.
I would try searching Ancestry or other places with spelling variations.
