Surname Palermo from Palermo, Sicily

Having trouble searching for the Surname Palermo. Results keep coming up for Palermo, Sicily. My family came from Palermo, Sicily and their Surname was Palermo. Can anyone help me find information on a Guiseppe Palermo born mid 1800's - emigrated to the New York circa 1878.
