Sanguinetti from Castelluccio

Post by Sanguinetti » 13 May 2010, 14:49

I recently found my greatgrandfather Luis Sanguinetti in a 1895 Argentine Cencus, it stated that he was from Castelluccio born around 1867. Does anybody have any information on this town in Italy?
It seems that there are many towns with that name.

It is true, there are a number of comuni (towns, cities) named Castelluccio:

Comune di Castellucchio, Provincia di Mantova
Comune di Castelluccio dei Sauri, Provincia di Foggia
Comune di Castelluccio Inferiore, Provincia di Potenza
Comune di Castelluccio Superiore, Provincia di Potenza
Comune di Castelluccio Valmaggiore, Provincia di Foggia

To make matters worse, there are also a number of frazioni (a neighborhood within or on the outskirts of a comune):

Castelluccio, Comune di Atessa, Provincia di Chieti
Castelluccio, Comune di Bella, Provincia di Potenza
Castelluccio, Comune di Capolona, Provincia di Arezzo
Castelluccio, Comune di Castel San Giorgio, Provincia di Salerno
Castelluccio, Comune di Fossalto, Provincia di Campobasso
Castelluccio, Comune di Montese, Provincia di Modena
Castelluccio, Comune di Norcia, Provincia di Perugia
Castelluccio, Comune di Noto, Provincia di Siracusa
Castelluccio, Comune di Pescorocchiano, Provincia di Rieti
Castelluccio, Comune di Porretta Terme, Provincia di Bologna
Castelluccio Cosentino, Comune di Sicignano degli Alburni, Provincia di Salerno

So, as you can see, without more information the situation is quite impossible. Your best hope is to use the Italian telephone directory ( ) to try and determine in which if any of these areas the surname Sanguinetti is most common and then work from there.

Are there other Argentine records available which might have further information? Naturalization records perhaps? Immigration records?

My hobby is finding things. Having found most of my own, I am happy to help others find theirs. PM me! :)
