Vincenzo Valenti

Post by eric5021 »

I am new to the forum. I am looking for any information on Vincentzo "Vincent" Valenti. So far, I have the following information:

Was born in roughly 1870.
He was a gunsmith for the wealthy in Italy
He was from Northern Italy
He was married to Maria Reso Valenti, who I believe was from Sicily. She was born in 1881.
Moved to America by 1902.

That is all that I know. I am trying to find out when exactly he was born, which city he was from and when he moved to America. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Eric

Eric,
We'll probably need to find his ship manifest to determine where he was born (if it's a manifest after abt 1898). Did he come to the US with any children? Where did they live?
Thank you

His oldest son, Dominico Valenti, was born in New Orleans, LA in 1902. All of his children were born in New Orleans, LA. My grandfather told me that he met his wife in Italy and moved to New Orleans. I made a mistake in his birth year. It is 1870. So my guess would be he married in the 1890s and moved between 1890 and 1900.

Valarie,

I am very impressed by how quickly you found this info. I have been looking for a few weeks, but I guess I didn't know where to look. The first
Vincent Valenti is him. His kids match up with the kids I know about. The only difference is that we knew of a Cosmo, but we thought it was his son Paul Vincent Valenti. I am not sure if Paul is Cosmo, which I don't think, or if he was born after 1920.

It looks like he may have come over in 1896, according to what I can see in the census. It looks like Mary may have come at the same time. If this is the case, he may not be Cosimo Valenti's son. Though Cosimo has alot of children with the same names as Vincent, their ages don't seem to be right. Also, my grandpa told me that he was a gunsmith while living in Italy. If he moved to America at age 8, I don't think that could be right. But, my grandfather has been wrong on a few things.

He was married in 1893 and moved here in 1896. I am pretty sure he came into New Orleans and settled here. Do you think you could help me find which boat he came in on.

Again, thanks for the help. This is great information.

Vincent and Mary match up to what I have. I don't think Cosimo is his dad. He would have been 17 when he was born. But it is possible.

I can't locate any shipping manifest for Vincent in 1896. Honestly, I don't know where to look. Could anyone help find the boat he came in on. I think he was married in Sicily, so it most likely would have departed from there.
