The Gioia/Joya Family

Post by CDJoya » 17 Jul 2010, 01:59

Hey all.

I was on here a long time ago, asking for some help. Mainly with trying to figure out my dad's side of the family tree.

My great-grandfather, whose given Italian name was Antonino Gioia (according to this certificate) and American name was Anthony Dominic Joya, came over from Palermo Italy, through Comune di Termini Imerese. I know his parents' names from the birth certificate, but that is it. I sent a letter to Comune de Termini Imerese last summer, but nothing came of it. Can anyone help me out here?

You can order microfilm records ofr Termini Imerese from your local Family History Center (run my the Mormon church); see this catalog of available films: ... ++di++Term++

There are several threads here on ordering and using these films; this is a good one:

Hmmm... This website might be helpful:

Your other option is to slowly begin obtaining birth certificates from Termini Imerese. You wirte requesting certificates fro Antonio's parents, then you write again requesting for their parents, and so on.

My hobby is finding things. Having found most of my own, I am happy to help others find theirs. PM me! :)
