Francis Cimento Vartuli

Post by desonia69 »

Hi, another new person trying to track down Italian roots (on my wife's side). Here is my progress so far: wife's mother (Irene Florence Vartuli); Irene's father [Michael Vincent Vartuli: 16 Dec 1921 Burlington, VT - 22 Jun 2000 Hampton, VA; married Grace Agnes Hamilton 14 Feb 1942 in Winooski, VT]; Michael Vincent's father [Francis Cimento Vartuli: 30Nov 1897 in Italy - 1930 somewhere; married Pauline St. Germain 14 Jul 1918 in Colchester, VT; married Irene Marie Hamlin 28 Feb 1923 in Winooski, VT. He has a World War I draft card dated 12 Sep 1918 with residence at 86 Hickok, Winooski, VT; and stating that Francis Cimento was naturalized a U.S. citizen from his father's naturalization when Francis Cimento was a minor. He has children Michael Vincent (16 Dec 1921-22 Jun 2000), Jennie (8 Oct 1922 - 9 Oct 1990), Dominic (10 Jan 1926 - Mar 1987), and Francis (11 May 1928 - 4 Dec 2007) ].

Francis Cimento Vartuli is where I am stuck. There was a Francesco Vartuli, 8 years old, from Arena, Italy on the Ship Citta di Torino that arrived at Ellis Island, NY on 24 Sep 1905 from Napoli, Italy. The age of 8 would be consistent with the birth date.

Also I have declaration #639 and declaration page 211 from Declaration of Intent for Naturalization: New York County, 1907-1924. These numbers are for a Francesco Vartuli. His WWI draft card listed him as naturalized American through his father, so maybe it is a different person. I don't know what to do with these numbers. Do I look this up at a family history center or order this from NY?
Thank you.

seeming to me that this your suggestion is right
Francis Cimento Vartuli is where I am stuck. There was a Francesco Vartuli, 8 years old, from Arena, Italy on the Ship Citta di Torino that arrived at Ellis Island, NY on 24 Sep 1905 from Napoli, Italy. The age of 8 would be consistent with the birth date.
The father was Michele/michael and the mother Giovanna, maiden name Di Paola..
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0018

really the full name of Michele/Michael was:

U.S. World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942
about Michele Cimenti Vartuli
Name: Michele Cimenti Vartuli
Birth Date: 21 Aug 1878
Birth Place: Arena
Residence: Chittenden, Vermont

Race: White
Roll: WW2_2368872

that matching with your Francesco surnames...
more:

World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918
about Mike Vartula
Name: Mike Vartula
County: Chittenden
State: Vermont
Birth Date: 22 Aug 1878

Race: White
FHL Roll Number: 1984062
DraftBoard: 0

and what is interesting, it is that in the WWI draft registration card the Mike address is the same of your Francis:
86 Hickok, Winooski, VT
He has a World War I draft card dated 12 Sep 1918 with residence at 86 Hickok, Winooski, VT;
here the image:

so Francesco was married at Pauline St Germain and living ( at WWI draft registration card) in the parent's home

Possible Manifest for Michele Vartuli

Manifest for Giovanna DiPaola and son Francesco stated they were going to Witherbee, NY to husband Michele, with annotation that he was in "2 years in US"
This is 1903 manifest for Michele going to cousin Giuseppe Vartuli in Witherbee, NY. Line 1

Lines 2 and 3 have two others (surname Arruzza) going to cousin Giuseppe Vartuli in Witherbee, NY

My greatgrandfather Giuseppe Vartuli came to America from Arena in 1913 and stated on the immigration papers that he was going to stay with his cousin Francesco in Winooski so maybe Francis Cimento Vartuli is the same person. My GG and his wife and children all lived on Hickock street for years as well.
