I'm trying to find any records for my grandmother, Assunta DeVita. I originally thought that she was from the town of Rose, but in looking at my grandfather's application for citizenship it states that she was from Spezzani Albenese. She entered this country under the surname DeVita and yet we have found that DeVita was her mother's maiden name. Her mother as near as we can find was Carmela DeVita. Her father was Guiseppe Gatto. She was born in May of 1894. She and two siblings came to America, but there were many siblings who remained in Italy. Any information that could be provided would be appriciated.
Thank you
Sansainte

Thanks for your reply. I do have that information. I am trying to locate her family records from Italy. Seems to be an extremely difficult task. The flow of information seems to stop at Ellis Island. But the fun of genealogy is to just keep on looking.

You could try writing to Spezzano Albanese for her birth record

Re: DeVita/Gatto Spezzano Albanese Italy
I am also researching my grandmother Maria Grazia DeVita. We believe her mother was Carmela DeVita. Maria was born in 1888. She came to the US in 1903. She had a brother, Francesco who lived in Bristol, PA and a sister Susan Zucco who lived in Springfield, MA. Like your, we thought my grandmother came from Rose, but it seem now she or some of her family may have also been in Spezzano. Where did your grandmother live in the US and what was her marriage name?
