Anyone have information on Dellario?

Post by mattdellario »

Hello so recently I have become very interested in my geneology and have been trying to find out more about my great grandparents and my ancestors. I dont have very much information just from relatives and i could find next to no information online so if you guys have any good sites i could check that would be great.
My great grandfathers name was Cataldo Dellario and was married to Josephine Dellario both of them came over to usa from italy. I know this is the barest of information but if you guys can find anything or can give me a starting point that would be great.

Hello and welcome to the forum-
do you know where your ancestors settled in the U.S. and approximately when they were born?

Here are two Cataldo Dellario from the social security index. Is one of these your great grandfather?

It now costs $27 to order his application for his social security card. This application, which is basically a slip of paper, should have his parents' names and his place of birth.

https://secure.ssa.gov/apps9/eFOIA-FEWe ... t/main.jsp

Do you know his father's name?

this is his information from the social security index at www.rootsweb.com

a copy of his application can also be ordered via regular mail. There is a link on this website to create a letter to social security-

DELLARIO, CATALDO 13 Feb 1896 May 1976 80 18640 (Pittston, Luzerne, PA) (none specified) Pennsylvania SS #169-14-6891

This person comes up on Ellis Island passenger lists, but I can't say it is your great grandfather. The last name is spelled a little differently. This person was 16 at the time he arrived and came with his father who was a Calogero, or Charles. They were destined to the father's brother in law who was Francesco Lo Piano in Manhattan.

First Name: Cataldo
Last Name: Dell'Aira
Ethnicity: Italy Italian South
Last Place of Residence: Caltanissetta, Sicily
Date of Arrival: Mar 19, 1914
Age at Arrival: 16y Gender: F Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: America (1908)
Port of Departure: Palermo

to search Ellis Island records, you can use either of these websites:

www.ellisislandrecords.org

or a better site is www.stevemorse.org (use the gold form)

If in fact the social security death record is your grandfather, here is further information:

Pennsylvania Veterans Burial Cards, 1777-1999

Name: Cataldo Dellario
Birth Date: 13 Feb 1896
Death Date: 27 May 1976
Age: 80
Military Branch: Army
Veteran of Which War: World War I
Cemetery Name: St Rocco's Cemtery
Cemetery Location: Pittston Township, Pennsylvania

Can you provide the names of any children born to Cataldo and his wife? This information may help place them on a census, giving us a time of immigration, possible naturaliztion, as well as other records of interest.

Possibility for the 1930 census:

Name: Cataldo Delario
Home in 1930: Pittston, Luzerne, Pennsylvania
Age: 31
Estimated birth year: abt 1899
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Head
Spouse's name: Josephine Delario
Race: White
Occupation: miner

Household Members:
Name Age
Cataldo Delario 31
Josephine Delario 23
Antoinette Delario 7
Louis Delario 6
Catherine Delario 1

Year of immigration appears to be about 1915 and he is naturalized.

Hello all

I see that you are talking about family Dell'Aria.

I have some informations.

Donald Joseph Dellario - his father Cataldo Dellario (1919 - 2004) - his father Cologero Dell'Aria - his father Samuel Dell'Aria.

I found surname Dellario Donald Joseph in genetic lab where I do Y -DNA testing and result is 20 overlapping markers out of 22 (20/22). Genetic distance 2.

It seems I am genetically connected with Donald Joseph Dellario trough fathers line. This informations about Cataldo, Cologero and Samuel I think I have found out at http://www.familysearch.org/

I am also connected with
John Nosta, 18/20 genetic distance 2.
Jon Maleta (latest known ancestor Mihai Maleta) 17/20 genetic distance 3.
Peter Louis Palmiotto 25/27 I suppose also genetic distance 2.

I hope it will help

Hello everyone! Well MY grandfather is the Cataldo Dellario that passed away in 2004 on Memorial Day- fitting for a proud marine in WWII. His father was Cologero Dell'aria and he was the only one to change his last name to Dellario, lovingly referred to as Dell most of his life. My grandmother was Antoinette Viola Dellario, daughter of Concetta and Peter Viola from Naples. Someone posted a relation to Vennerina- I have an Aunt Vennerina- sister to Cataldo..same person? My uncle is the Donald Dellario mentioned in a post as well. Please PM if you have a connection.
