LUCCHI

Post by EVELYN FASANELLA » 11 Apr 2011, 17:38

Looking for information on great-grandmother's family:
Maiden name: MARIA TOZZI. Born: Rome, Italy 1843.
Father; (unknown)Tozzi, Mother: Rosa Rossi. Unknown if Maria had brothers or sisters.
Maria married Antonio Lucchi in 1860s & had 4 children: Elvira (Lucchi) DeRicci (1869), Romeo Lucchi (c.1871), Giulia (Lucchi) Carluccio (Aug.1874)[my maternal grandmother], & Augusto Andrea Lucchi (14 March 1877).
Maria (Tozzi) Lucchi was abandoned by husband; she later left Rome, Italy with children, settling in Marseilles, France in early 1880s; later moved to Paris. Maria moved to New York City in 1909 with dtr Giulia who married in NYC soon after. She died in early 1920s in NYC. Elvira, Giulia & Augusto all died NYC. Romeo died France age 15.

Grand-uncle Augusto spoke of remembering a grandfather who sold hay in Rome & would take him on the hay cart to light the neighborhood street lamps (c.1880-1 ??). Unknown which grandfather this was - Lucchi, Tozzi, Rossi, or other. Any information on family of Maria Tozzi and her husband Antonio Lucchi greatly appreciated.

For birth records after 1870 you can write to the Comune di Roma. Before that you need to access parish records which are kept at the Vicariato di Rome (near S. Giovanni Laterano)but you must know which parish.
