Maloni, Salvatore

Post by billoms »

I am looking for information on this ancestor. He was born in 1887, in Italy, arrived in 1901 and settled in Le Roy, NY. Does anyone have information on this person.
Thanks

Is that your tree on ancestry.com just a question wasnt Salvatore wife was named Lena according to the census of 1920 who is Parmina Vinci? Also I see by the 1930 census Salvatore was 19 and Lena was 15 which would make them married 1907 did they get married in New York?

Saw your Family Tree on Ancesty for Salvatore Malone... and noticed you have the 1920 and 1930 Census there :-)

Here is a 1910 Census that may also be the family. Address is Bacon St., the same as the WWI registration card...

The name was badly misspelled when written down by the census taker :?

Hi Marty :D

Yes, the spelling can get REALLY creative... :?

I would think that "Lena" has a sound similar to the ending of "Parmina" and "Armena" (you see that these last two could certainly be the same person)...
Or maybe just a nickname...

I thought the "Sam MALOON" was interesting

Thanks for posting the image... :D

Thanks everyone, I could not find them in the 1910 census because of their name did not pop up under the spellings I tried. This is a great help, good investigative work. I have gotten more info using the spelling of the last name Milone, on the draft card. I still cannot find a ship he came over on, probably from the spelling issue again. I am pretty sure they were married in LeRoy, NY.

Here's another interesting "clue" to the last name...

Could be Sam (Salvatore's) sister/cousin???

Arriving NY January 1905...SS Vincenzo Florio (lines 8, 9, 10)
Giovanna Milone, from Falcone, Italy,(this is the same place Sam listed on the WWI Rgistration Card as his place of birth) going to LeRoy, NY to husband Giuseppe Barone...
Also traveling with her are daughters
Antonina and Carmela...

For some reason I can't get the URL for ellisisland.org to work... :-(

Given Name: Giovanna
Surname: Milone
Last Place of Residence: Falcone
Date of Arrival: 02 Jan 1905
Age at Arrival: 26y
Ethnicity: Italy-Italian South
Port of Departure: Napoli
Port of Arrival: New York
Gender: Female
Marital Status: M
US Citizen:
Ship of Travel: Vincenzo Florio
Collection: New York Passenger Arrival Lists (Ellis Island), 1892-1924

What I would do is check the Le Roy, Genesee, New York or the Genesee county for the marriage license of Salvatore Maloni looks like on the 1910 census they were married for 6 years so it would be 1903-1905 with those census takers who knows... LOL and try to get a maiden name of his wife and see what name they have for hermaybe they will have the parents names on there
Than here is the other option
Ok there are only records at Family History Library 1857-1865 for Falcone Messina Sicily that will help later.
so you might have to write the the comune for records of Salvatore so heres the info

Comune Di Falcone

I found a possible hit on a ship manifest from the SS Germania, arrived oct 1903 in NY. There was a Salvatore Melone/Milone, age 17,From Falcone, visiting an uncle Sebastian D'Amico.. However it does not say were Seb is located. I tried looking for him but no hit. What do you think?
