Records from Auletta Italy

Post by rancelli » 22 Jun 2011, 23:07

According to the marriage record that I received, my great grandfather was born in Auletta Italy. I was wondering if someone could confirm this for me through a town search? I'm not sure if you'll find anything, but he was born in 1862. I also got the birth record of my great grandmother. The only problem is the birth dates don't match. Her death certificate said she was born on April 29, 1866, and the record from Italy says March 3, 1866. Is it possible that she may have not known her actual birth date?

The record from Italy usually has the date it was recorded at the top (first couple of lines), and the actual date of birth in the body of the document.

Many times immigrants were not really sure of their exact birthdate. What was in their record from Italy would be the actual date of birth, what is on US records (especially death records which are notoriously inaccurate because the info is provided by surviving relatives who may not know) is often their "best guess."

Can you post the image of her birth record so we can take a look?
