Biviano / Peluso from Lipari

Post by Verus Vita Vis »

I would love know if anyone out there could give me more information about my grandfathers sister who I think lived and died in Lipari. My grandfathers name is Bartolo Biviano and he was born in Lipari 1.4.1914 he died in Sydney, Australia, 6.12.1989. He married Guissepina Tarranto and they had 3 children, Erminia, Claudio (my Dad) and Galdina. They are all here in Australia.
He had a sister named Giuseppina who I assume married as I was given her surname as Peluso. I would love to know more about this lady, what she did, whether she had her own children and when she died, etc. I am in Australia and my family here doesn't seem to recall much and I unfortunately do not speak Italian. :(
Any help in learning more about this 'unknown' relative of mine would be much appreciated.
Cheers and thanks in advance,
Claurissa (Biviano)

Quick question: are you familiar with the Australian National Archives web site?

Also, any idea as to the year of birth for Giuseppina Biviano/Peluso?

Yes, I am familiar with the Australian National Archives but the only information I am seeking is about Giuseppine Peluso from Lipari. I think she resided in Portinente, or something like that. I don't know her year of birth but I will try and speak to my family here and see if anyone can recall. My grandfather (her brother) is deceased as mentioned but my grandmother (his wife) is still going strong at 97 years old although she has reverted back to her native tongue and as I live far from her I am unable to communicate over the phone with her in English! Lol! So I would have to organise another family member to translate for me. If I do ever find out a birth year for Giuseppina Peluso I will post it. Thanks for your response. Much appreciated! :-)

Okay, so I presume you have found Bartolo's passport, your grandmother Giuseppina's immigration document, the photos of Bartolo and also of Giuseppina with her three children, etc.

Did you see also that you can order copies of Bartolo's naturalization documents? These often contain a wealth of info.

The reason I asked about Giuseppina Peluso's birth year is so that I can look for possible emigration to the US. Any idea as to the names of Bartolo and his sister Giuseppina's parents?

hi there Claurissa, I know it's a bit random to receive a reply so long after you made this post.... My bis nonna is the Giuseppina Biviano you're looking for. She married Gaetano Peluso, both born, lived and died in Lipari. My nonna Caterina Peluso (married Giardina) was their oldest daughter and she moved to Melbourne in the 1950s. My mum, Grace Giardina (married Luciani) is her oldest daugter and I'm Grace's oldest daughter. My nonna died in 2016, but her sister Maria Peluso (also married a Giardina) has told us all about their mother if you're still interested in hearing about her - I'm happy to help you. After searching google, I'm sorry to have heard of your nonna's passing, but my mum has confirmed that we are definitely related. Looking forward to your reply, sorry for such a long wait!
