Timpano family

Post by drbdrdeb »

I am looking for information on Salvatore Timpano. He came from Serra San Bruno, Calabria in 1908 and moved to Canada, settling in Trout Creek. His wife, Giuseppina and son, Giuseppe came from Italy in 1910. There seem to be two Salvatore Timpanos from Serra San Bruno living in Turtle Creek. The one I am looking for had a sister Rosaria Salerno, in Greenwich Ct. Can someone sort this out for me?

Hello,
Not sure if this helps, but this information from the Family History Center,,,,
Civil registration (births, documents enclosed with marriage records, marriage banns, marriages, deaths) from the municipality of Serra San Bruno in the province of Vibo Valentia. Includes indexes. Before 1992 Serra San Bruno was part of the province of Catanzaro. Some registers are missing. Records from the years 1862-1910 were filmed together with records from other localities. Marriage records from the years 1820-1822 were filmed among records from Strongoli.

This record says Salvatore is from Comune di Petrizzi, Catanzaro, Calabria with the correct surname for his wife, Giuseppina.

Your 1908 manifest says Salvatore is visiting brother in law Salvatore Salerno.Your sister might use her Timpano name on the border crossing????

The other Timpano born 1873-1874 is possibly related, but in my opinion, not your direct family.

Suanj,
I would like to prove that this Salvatore Timpano was the same. Salvatore Timpano who was the godfather of the son of Giuseppe. Amato. The baby was baptised in August, 1912, 3 weeks after the murder of Giuseppe's wife Carmella. I can find no other Salvatore Timpano in the Connecticut area at the time. He was visiting his siter in Greenwich, Ct at that time. I want to make sure there was no other man with the same name there .

I do not find many documents of people entering Canada from the United States. Any I have found are on Ancestry.com. Is there a better source?

The father, Salvatore, and the mother, Giuseppina, seemed to have a difficult relationship. She appears to have gone to stay with Salvatore's sister, Rosina, several times for a few months to a year at a time. She would bring the children. Eventually their life got better, they had more children and she stayed home. They lived in a very isolated place.

I have a bit of information about the Timpano's from that area - they married into our family. I'm not sure your Salvatore is my Salvatore but if you can send me a PM I can see what I have. Be warned - the Timpano's had VERRRRRY large families up to and including my generation!

I am not sure what PM is. But here is what I know....Salvatore and his wife Giuseppina had a large family. They came to Turtle Creek early, about 1912. He had lived in Halliburton previously until she arrived. He had a sister, Rosina Timpano Salerno who lived with her husband, Sal, in Greenwich, Ct. The Timpanos would go to see her every few years for a month or more at a time. They had 7 children I think.: Joe, Caterina and Bruno being the oldest. Caterina, or Catherine, was later mayor of Turtle Creek. There are 2 other Salvatore Timpanos in the area, one married a Vida. I do not know the relationship. I am interested in what my Salvatore did to earn money. He had a deformed left hand, missing a thumb and part of forefinger.

Is there any new information on this family? I am a great grand daughter of a Salvatore Timpano from Trout Creek. Any help would be appreciated!
