Can we find her with so little information?

Post by nwkate » 29 Jan 2012, 17:08

I am trying to find information on a friend's grandmother, and of course the family has almost no information.

What they do know is:

1) her name was Maria Tolino (thanks to jamiecapaldi for the list of names from her region - now I have the correct spelling of the last name!)
2) she was from Ariano Irpino
3) she married Andrea Bongo (also a surname on the list previously mentioned)
4) their first son was born in 1897 (the father of my elderly friend)
5) Maria's date of birth could be 1870-1880 or so
6) she and Andrea did not immigrate to the US

Any suggestions regarding how and where to start searching for Maria?

THANK YOU!

Your first stop should be the nearest Family History Centre. www.familysearch.org click on Library will find you one. Go there, order the films for Ariano and search them at the centre. If she never emigrated, you should find her.
Translations and tips on searching the films can be found on my website.

Thank you - found her civil marriage record almost immediately upon receiving the films.

Is there a site that has a translation of the "form" used for the Atti di Matrimonio? I can puzzle out the names, dates, locations, but would love to have all of the legalese included.
