The name Pepina

Well I was able to finally locate a death record of the little girl who came over from Italy, through the local Catholic Diocese. The name was registered as Pepina Buccelli. She died on May 1, 1893...I looked up the name Pepina and read that it was a form of Josephine. Can anyone who has heard of that name confirm this? Another question I have, it says she was 4 years and 6 months, my calculation is 5 years and 6 months. How accurate were people back then when giving someones age at the time of death?

Yes it is a form for Giuseppa or Giuseppina.
Age declared at time of death usually is not accurate at all.
