I fear I might be looking for names that were misspelled after emigration to the USA. The death certificate here in Minnesota for Lucia Sartori (1859-1926) lists her parents as Frank Forsinengo and Maria Scheverney. Lucia reported having been born in Brenta, Varese, Lombardia. There was mention of a relative from the Piedmonte, also. I do not find these surnames in any index or list, except for Forsinengo, Cesar, her brother, in Census lists for the USA. I feel this is a long-shot. Has anyone heard of these surnames? I am wondering if Fosinengo is modified from Forsini or Forengo? Perhaps Scheverney is a variant spelling of Chiaverini? I am perplexed.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Many thanks, suanj!
So Lucia is Cesare's aunt, not a sibling. Yes, the surname spelling seems consistent. Still, these surnames seem unusual. I continue to search for relatives.

HI!
You are right :Forsinengo is a very unusual surname, not even listed in the Italian phone directory. Just a wild guess: the surname Fornengo is found in the Provinces of Novara and Verbania in Piedmont, near the Province of Varese, just across Lake Maggiore. Maybe worth a look. On the contrary Sartori is very common in Valcuvia, the valley north the town of Varese and near the lake where Brenta is located.
Brenta is a tiny village, not exactly a town, so hopefully if you write to the Comune someone can help you with Cesare's birth record. Even if the surname is misspelled surely there weren't many children named "Cesare" born there in 1891-92. Most employees are overworked, with no time to spare for unusuale questions, but in small communities it is always possible to find somebody interested in local history. Just try and don't be disapponinted if they don't aswer!

As Lucia was born in 1856 you could also try to find her baptismal record, or that of Pietro, but nowadays parish priests often are in charge of more than one parish , and don’t always have the time to look at old records.

Re: Forsinengo and Scheverney from Varese, Lombardia
Paola,
Thank you for this information! I've been away from the site for a while and just found your note today. I will try your suggestions for my research. Lucia (nee Forsinengo) Sartori was my 2nd great grandmother. She emigrated to Saint Paul, Minnesota, with her husband and oldest daughter, Palmyra. John Sartori died in 1896. Lucia managed to raise her children alone, after some farming out. Palmyra (nee Sartori) Cantieri was my father's maternal grandmother.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.
Best wishes,
MaryAnn
