I am trying to finish my deceased father’s effort to find his true family surname. His grandfather, Antonio (Anton) Ruffus immigrated to the United States around 1900 where he first settled in the Italian community of Coal City Illinois SW of the city of Chicago.
His name in early hand written documents in the United States appeared to be spelled either Roffo or Ruffo.
Oral family history is that he did not know the name of his father (possibly a nobleman) but the surname of his mother was Davito. Oral Family also has Antonio being raised in an orphanage. He may have been born in the village of Rocca Canavese just north of Torino.
His wife’s parents also immigrated from the same area of Italy, possibly Corio, around 1980 or 1990. In the United States the name was spelled Trolia but I believe it was spelled Troglia in Italy.
If the names of Ruffo, or Troglia, or Davito exist in your family history I would very much like to hear from you by email.
My wife and I have been to Italy several times on holiday and in September 2013 we hope to spend part of our holiday in the area around Corio and Rocca Canavese.
If we still have family living in that area of course we love to meet them during our visit to Italy.

Mia moglie ed io sono stato in Italia diverse volte in vacanza e nel settembre 2013 ci auguriamo di trascorrere parte della nostra vacanza nella zona di Corio e Rocca Canavese.
Se abbiamo ancora famiglia che vive in quella zona, naturalmente, ci piace loro incontro durante la nostra visita in Italia.
