I need help to collect information on the surname "Tundisi".

Post by Carolina Tundisi »

I need help to collect information on the surname "Tundisi". Original Cosenza, Italy.

Hello! I need help in finding information on the descendants of the name Tundisi, I have about 7 years gathering information but very little ... I got other families and trees with that name but still can not relate my direct descent, and unfortunately in the Italian consulate in my country (Venezuela) no records are found, except a birth certificate of my grandfather I applied in 2001 to Italy.

Direct information that managing my family is:

Nicolina Greco Tundisi - Luigi Tundisi (Parents, Antonio Tundisi) "unknown data"
Tundisi Antonio Greco (Son) "27/07/1937 Trecchina-Consenza-Italy"
Yolanda Tundisi (Daughter) "23/12/1939" ... other unknown data

Luigi Tundisi had a brother named Luigi Eugenio Tundisi and his wife was called Ortencia, their data are unknown.

I reviewed with ads presses microfilms, obituaries, birth, death, military records, but have not had any luck, and most of the places are Americans and have little information of Italian records.

According to my mother my grandfather Antonio migrated to Venezuela with his parents at the age of 7 years and traveled hidden in a boat that took them to the port of the city of Maracaibo in Venezuela, so the search miss in ships passenger list also has hindered me. Any help or assistance would be welcome.

Hi Carolina,

most likely the correct italian lasntame was Tundis, which is present in Cosenza Province , Calabria region, especially in the town Cetraro.

using this site you can see the actual spreading of the lastname:

http://www.gens.info/italia/it/turismo- ... WUUZJPIafU

while using this other site you can see in which town the lastname is mainly present:

http://italia.indettaglio.it/ita/cognom ... abria.html
Tundisi Antonio Greco (Son) "27/07/1937 Trecchina-Consenza-Italy"
Trecchina is today under the province of Potenza , Basilicata region.

Can you tell us more or less the birth year of Antonio's father Luigi? Did he died in Venezuela? Do you have his death act?

The civil registrations for Cetraro are online on the site Familysearch.org here:

So, if Luigi and Eugenio's father was Antonio Tundisi, what about this birth record from Scalea (Cosenza Province)?:

Birth act number 50 - Year 1907

Tundisi Eugenio was born in Scalea on 9 may 1907, son on Antonio Tundisi, age 25 and of his wife Teresina Asprino.
On the left side there is an annotation that states that Eugenio's father Antonio died on the first world war.

Just in the case that these are the correct persons, these are the death dates for Antonio Tundisi born on 13 april 1882 in San Nicola Arcella (Cosenza province, just 5 km from Scalea) who died during the first world war on 4 october 1918:

Eugenio was 28 years old, so born on aprox 1907, his last residence was Caracas - venezuela, he was a merchant, was in transit in New York to go to Europe.
Do you believe he may have been Luigi's brother?
Did them all settled in Caracas or other places in venezuela?

Today San Nicola Arcella is a Comune, at the time your ancestors lived it was a fraction of Scalea town.. I'm pretty sure that the 1907 birth act for Eugenio (who was born in Scalea, at the address San Nicola Street) is regarding the same person of the 1935 arrival manifest.

Thank you! You have no idea how much that has helped me the information that I have provided, the passenger list and locations in Italy had, but did not have the birth certificate and the list of military dead. I certainly add greatly to my research and in fact it is the uncle of my grandfather, migrated to Venezuela through the port of La Guaira, began working in the city of Caracas and managed to be the founder of the service stations gasoline SHELL, then informed his brother Luigi that things were fine in Venezuela and that could come with the rest of the family. That's when escaping from the night my grandfather Antonio, his sister Yolanda and her parents Luigi and Nicolina sneaking a boat that takes them to Venezuela.

The information has given me hope to continue seeking information Luigi Tundisi (Eugene's brother, the father of my grandfather) ... no idea of the importance and extent of the information given to me, I know that the legacy of the name "Tundisi" last forever, like I know that with the creation of the tree will leave my children this valuable treasure. Thank you so much with all my heart!
