Indexes and books

Post by ray1955 »

I keep hearing the subject above and in FamilySearch it shows books as an option. What about Indexes.
Where are they so I can try to use them to determine how helpful they would be.
I am finding you can't really look for what I want 1910 to now unless I write to someone in Italy.

Can anyone add to the above...appreciate it.

Some sites like ancestry.com have Italian records that have indexes of each year listed as indices annuale nascite (YEAR BIRTH INDEX)which are each year in alphabetical order with the last name first with a first name sometimes the fathers first name will be listed.
Familysearch.org has a lot Italian records most of them are listed in multi years like 1880-1896 most of the time the index is at the end of the year you are searching for and sometimes there are no indexes at all you have to look through the whole year you are searching page by page for whom you are searching
Like finding that death record of Antonino Spoto

Having 1909 for Antonino I was able to start at the back of the record and work forward and yes there were listing of people at the back and I noticed as we have it in the states the year identification page would be first and everything would follow and then the next year would show up and then the next batch.....I did find them but they were reversed from what I expected.
I did find the death certificate and noticed FU = deceased Fortunato no last name as I suspect its cause its the same as the deceased and Maria's name seems run together cause its in cursive all in all found it very interesting.
