Sabella Biagio (spelling?)

Post by tinypackages »

My great grandfather was Biagio Sabella. He came to the US about March 16, 1900 according to the Ellis Passenger Log. Here is his log info:
First Name: Biagio
Last Name: Sabella
Ethnicity: Italy, Italian
Last Place of Residence Sciacca
Date of Arrival: Mar 16, 1900
Age at Arrival: 25y Gender: M Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Marco Minghetti
Port of Departure: Palermo
Manifest Line Number: 0009

I do remember him when I was a little girl. He did not speak english. What I am hoping for is more information about his roots and my great grandmothers too. She also came from Sciacca. But there is no record of her. They are both at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma Calif. My grandfather was Alfred Sabella.

I miss them all and would be so happy if I can find family or roots in Sciacca for my great grandfather (Biagio Sabella) and great grandmother.

You can contact me if you have any leads or if you can help.

Thank you,
Sharon Sabella

OH! THANK YOU SOOOOO much! You have given me something to go on. I am the 4th gen here. But yet I could not get any information. My father Billy Sabella died early he was 44yrs. My grandfather Alfred A Sabella son of Biagio and Accursia, when I asked him he would not talk about it. He only like to talk about here and now. And my great grandfather did not speak english. I never knew my great grandmother because she had already passed away. The only picture I have of her is on her gravestone.

You gave me a start. I thank you for that. I do not understand my bond with my Italian side it is so small. My grandmother who married my grandfather was 100% Russian. How a 100% Russian and a 100% Italian ever made it I have no idea. But from them came my dad than me. The Russian side is next to explore. But for me the Italian side feels so strong in me. I try to understand why but have no answer. When growing up I felt that the Sabella did not feel or seem to care any more about their roots as I wish they had passed photos and family down to me. They didn't but I am here now. I am 64yrs this year and before its too late I want to pass the pride I have to my children. I thank you so much suanj. I will go to your site and pay for more help. I have a photo I found it in my grandfathers house I do not know who it is. Maybe my great grandfather maybe my grandfather. It is a man sitting on maybe a beach. He looks young. Smoking and wearing a hat. Suanj I am glad I found you. I am glad because you are helping me fill a missing part of me.

You are so kind to help me. I wish I could travel back in time just to hug my family roots. Because of all of them I am so I am today. I can not understand why no one in the family cared. It was ok we are in the US now forget about our history. I am totally confused by this. Anyway my Father was Billy Sabella, My Grandfather was Alfred Alfonso Sabella born in NY on or about Jan 28th 1904 died May 1986. Like you I can not find him either. My father was an only child. So my grandfathers sisters and brothers were referred to as my aunts and uncles. I have met everyone on the census list we used to have big family gatherings. Charles Sabella was also my godfather. I know my grandfather (Italian) met my grandmother who was full Russian! HAHAHa funny to think of a Russian and Italian as husband and wife. Her name was Catherine also some spelled it with a K. Her family came here from Russia through Canada to the US. And some where somehow to met! What a story I would love to know.

Wouldn't it be so wonderful to go back and say Thank you, I am here because of you and I am proud. Poor, rich good or bad, it means nothing to me. Family is a wall and as a family we are strong, no matter our race or where we live we are all together by our blood. I need not know them all I understand that. But to be proud of family you need not meet them, this is as close I can get.

Hi. I just noticed this post, so I registered to give you some information. (If you haven't found anything.) I am pretty sure we are cousins :) My Mother and I had my Grandmother do a family history on video a few years before she passed, which helped us out with the family tree research later. (She died when she was almost 98 in 2010.) Anyway, I recall this family member of yours - she called him " Sebrazzi." My Mother and I have gotten the family tree pretty far back, if you want to check it out, I need to email you the link. He is in the tree. My email is honeygus@aol.com - maybe you have information that I don't have that I can add to the tree. My Grandmother was Maria Geraldi, perhaps you met her?

-Steph :)
