Surname Feiore and Chimiendo

Post by flyin64 » 05 Feb 2014, 01:16

Hi all,

Dominico Feiore married Florenza Chimiendo in last 1890's. Her name is unique to Castelluccio Contentino - I think Feiore may have started in Salerno or maybe in her home town too.

They can to US in 1904 and 1905, him first them her and two small children.

Does anyone have any leads on getting records from this region

I tried familysearch and ancestry but it has been said that this small commune has no records online anywhere

prove them wrong folks!

Willing to help with someones search, i am good at using the above 2 engines

Welcome to IG website if your sure they are from Castelluccio Cosentino their civil records would be in the town of Sicignano degli Alburni for Castelluccio Cosentino is a frazione (suburb) of Sicignano degli Alburni
Where did they settle in the US? Can you leave the link to their shipmanifest?

Hi, maybe the surname Feiore is the spelling in USA... the son of Domenico Feiore was Vincenzo Feiore aka James Feiore; but by naturalization record the right italian surname spelling was FIORE and no Feiore:

my Mom is from Costelluccio cosentino. degli Alburni. My Dad's Grandmother was from this Costelluccio Costentino as well. In fact my entire italian heritage come two towns, Costelluccio costentino and Galdo. So I am lucky in get family information.

I could be wrong but the name might not be Chimiendo but Chumiento. I can take Chumiento's to about 1840's. I am currently working with my uncle in Costelluccio to find out about Di Lorenzo's. When I get that link completed, I will bother him about Chumiento.

Howver, in Costelluccio, the other side of the family is the Di Lorenzo's and I can take them back to 1625.

Get back with me and I will ask my Mom about Feiore and Chimiendo. Mott St. in NYC at the turn of the century had Chumiento's and Grosso's, and Di Lorenzo. It was a common place to be if you were from that area. Also 114th st in NYC had the Trimarco family as well. Also, there was a Costelluccese Society where people from Costelluccio and galdo got together. It was amazing how proud of their heritage they were. I got lots on Costelluccio. Also, if you need Trimarco info, I have a relative who did an amazing amount of work on that side. He and I have to go back to 1801 to find our common Grandfather.

My uncle Carmine was in charge of the Costelluccio society until his death, about 6 or 7 years ago. I believe his son Vincent, my 2nd cousin is in charge of the society.

We are working to bring back the Castellucese Society. In NYC at Old St. Patricks church is the St. Vincent Ferrer Society. This society has been in existence, at least, since 1919. If you are interested in attending a get together of "The children of Castelluccio and Galdo", please get in touch with me. We are planning for a September Mass at the church with a informal gathering of the "children" afterwards.
