Surname DeTora
Surname DeTora
I am wondering what the surname DeTora means. My husband and I visited the village where his grandfather was born last summer. The village was named Casale near Caianello, Caserta. We did see on a map there is a place called Tora further north than Casale. Would DeTora mean that originally the family came from Tora, Italy. Also while in Casale we visited a relative that lived on Via Casa DeTora. Is it common to name a street after a family? Thank you, demari

Re: Surname DeTora
De Tora might indicate that the family was from the town of Tora, but back in the 1400's.
It was very common to name a country road for the family who lived on it. Via Casa De Tora would be the street of the house of the De Tora's.
