Thank all of you for your awesome input! I really appreciate it. What I ended up doing was to pick different animal head silhouettes (ie a horse for Stracci, an eagle For Cuneo, a lion for Corleone etc.) instead of a family shield to represent the families. It came out looking pretty good. These icons will be used in the UI (user interface) of the game and act as health monitors to show how much power your character has.
