Ignelzi and Luongo families from Avellino

Post by AndreaRiahi »

My grandfather Gaetano Luongo emigrated to US in 1903. Looking for family members of Gaetano. He married Angela Maria Ignelzi of Casalbore and the only confirmed sibling in US was Lucia Ignelzi Spina. Angela's witness on her passport to the US was Graziani Ignelzi. Need help in finding my Luongo and Ignelzi relatives.

Hi Andrea,
My mother was from Casalbore. Her grandmother on her father's side was Fidela Luongo.
Her grandfather on her mother's side was Nicolamaria Ignelzi. These are common
names in Casalbore.
If you could establish a link to any of these people, I could provide you info
on 3 prior generations.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your reply, just today was able to spend some time on my ancestry search. I only have the names in my post and am not even sure my grandfather Gaetano was from Casalbore. I do know that my grandmother, Angela, was his second wife and I believe his first wife, who died, was named Theresa. I will probably have to pay someone to do the research in the Italian records as I am at a point that I can not go any further in my search.

Hi Andrea,
I have found a Gaetano Luongo that came to the U.S. in 1902 at the age of
23. Also a Lucia Ignelzi who came in 1913 at the age of 19. Graziano Ignelzi
came in 1913 at the age of 64. If these dates/ages match what you have , I can possibly
get a little more info for you. I also have the microfilm index numbers from the
LDS for Casalbore if you are interested.

Sorry so long to answer you. The date and age is correct for Gaetano Luongo also for Lucia. I am not sure if Graziano is related. I have all the info from lds. I'm looking for info from records in Italy, trying to find parents name of Gaetano and parents name for Angela and Lucia Ignelzi. Can you help with that? Thanks

Hi Andrea,
The microfilm index number I have are for the records from Casalbore
and I'm sure they would be helpful in your search.
Since the names and dates match it is pretty certain they are from Casalbore.
I found them on a list of emigrants from Casalbore.
My grandmothers name was also Lucia Ignelzi.

I just happened on to this site and was surprised to see the surnames Ignelzi and Luongo listed on a message board together as this was a line on mine that I am at a complete dead end. So here it goes - my ancestors were Antonio Luongo & Rachela Ignelzi. Antonio was a leather dealer. I know of 4 children - Giuseppe, Prisco, Maddalena, and Filastro. Antonio's father was Prisco as well. Rachela's father was Giuseppe Ignelzi and mother was Teresa DeMatteo. I also know they traveled to/from Santa Paolina, Casalbore and eventually Roseto Valfortore. So I know some of these names are unique (Prisco and Filastro) - I am just trying to expand on the their story if anyone knows.... Any info would be wonderful no matter how small. Grazie mille

Did Antonio have a sister named Orsola Luongo born 1866? If so, you and me are cousins
