1841/42 Marriage in Napoli

Post by saccolicious »

I'm looking to find the marriage record in Napoli based on a notificazione record in the town of Civitaquana, province of Pescara:

Civitaquana #26 Filed 5 and 20 Dicembre 1841
Sposo: Matteo Palumbo, 37, Gendorme Reali, domiciliato in Napoli, figlio di Felice, defonto, e di Anna Atteria d’Angelo, defonta
Sposa: Giuseppa Agnesa Raffaela Merolla, 24, domiciliata in Napoli, figlia di Francesco, defonto, fannaio, e di Maria Tarantino, domiciliata in Napoli

So the marriage likely happened in Napoli, either December 1841 or sometime in 1842. But I don't have any more info on exactly where in Napoli it happened. I'm not familiar with the geography of Napoli but it looks like there are "quartieri' and "municipalities"? How would I go about searching for this marriage record, especially since not all the quartieri are available on the Antenati website? Would it be worth ordering the microfilm?

Thanks!

If they married in the city of Naples, all the municipalities are here:

http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... aurazione/

You'll have to look at marriages 1841/1842 for every municipality.
Marriages usually have an index in the first or last pages. Notice that some may be ordered by first name, not by surname.
However, can you show us the document you mentioned in your post?

In my experience with records in Civitaquana, they always refer to the comune, not the province, so I'm fairly confident the marriage would be in the city of Napoli.

Not all of the municipalities on the antenati website have an index, including Mercato, so I guess I'll be scrolling for a while!

The bride, Giuseppa Merolla, is the one from Napoli and I believe they had children there. Matteo and his parents are from Civitaquana.

I found some Birth child abt:

Francesco Pasquale Giovanni Palumbo son of Matteo Palumbo and Giuseppa Merolla in Quartiere Montecalvario, Napoli, Napoli, on 29 Jan 1844 http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 4.jpg.html

Luisa Carolina Filomena Palumbo daughter of Matteo Palumbo and Giuseppa Merolla in Quartiere Montecalvario, Napoli, Napoli, on 05 Jan 1846
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 6.jpg.html

Pasqua Maria Francesca Palumbo daughter of Matteo Palumbo and Giuseppa Merolla in Quartiere Montecalvario, Napoli, Napoli, on 06 Mar 1848. The informant was the midwife because Matteo was absent. A witness was Raffaele Merolla 27 old, I believe a brother of Giuseppa.

but searching the Quartiere Montecalvario marriages from 1841 to 1843 I don't found the record....

Thanks so much! Very interesting that I can't find the marriage record but at least we found some children and can continue working from there.

If it helps, marriages almost always took place in the brides hometown. Was the bride from Naples or just living there? Good luck with your search!
