Marchion

Post by rtamburrino »

Recently found that my great-grandmother was named Vittoria Marchion (not Marchione, or Marchioni, just plain Marchion). She was born in Palombara, Rome, Lazio and moved to S.Angelo Romano (Rome, Lazio) after her marriage to Giusseppe Ciucci (my bisnonno, or great-grandfather).

I have never come across this surname before, and wonder if anyone else has (or can help explain it). Seems an odd Italian name (more French by the looks of it).

Thanks!

I could not find one single Marchion coming from Palombara...

The closest surname I could find was

Marchianni,Angelo Palombara, Roma 1912 27
Marchionhi,Alfredo Palombara 1907 16
Marchioni,Angelo Palombara 1906 16
Marchionni,Andrea Palombara 1907 45
Marchionni,Angelo Palombara, Italy 1906 21
Marchionni,Angelo Palombara 1903 24
Marchionni,Domenico Palombara Sabina, Italy 1916 19
Marchionni,Giovanni Palombara 1903 32
Marchionni,Giuseppe Palombara 1907 29
Marchivinni,Antonio Palombara, Roma

Are you sure the name wasn't shortened in the USA??

Thanks so much for helping!

I am certain that the name was not shortened in the US, as my g-grandmother never emigrated here. I know that the surname Marchion has been found in Switzerland, but we have never heard anything regarding a familial link to that area.
