Esther Talamini

Post by gcderidder@yahoo.com »

My step-father is trying to find his Italian roots. His mother was Esther Talamini, B: 2 Aug 1900 in San Vito di Cadore, Belluno, Veneto, Italy & emmigrated to US about 1910. Married James Ferrara (or Ferraro) 1923 in NJ, probably Garfield. James was born in Palermo, Italy, 28 Jun 1901. HELP please!

If the records are not on line at www.familysearch.org or at www.antenati.it then you will need to write to the town for copies of their birth records.

I look in the NJ Bride index for 1920-1929 but did not locate an "Esther". There however were other Talamini's listed.

You may already have this, but a little more info to go on:

Based on the 1920 US census records, it looks like James Ferrara was the son of James Ferrara, born in Italy about 1866 and wife Antonia, born in Italy about 1869. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1904. (census record is for Garfield Ward 4, Bergen, New Jersey). James' siblings were Benjamin (born abt 1896), Charles (born abt 1898), and Mary (born abt 1906).

From that same census it looks like Esther Talamini was the daughter of Giovanni Talamini, born in Italy in about 1868, immigrated to the U.S. in 1907, and wife Emma born in Italy about 1864. (census record for them is also Garfield Ward 4, Bergen, New Jersey). Esther's siblings were Elizabeth (born abt 1892), Guido (born abt 1903), and Mary (born about 1905). On return from a trip back to Italy aboard the Conte di Savoia, arriving in New York on 23 Feb 1933, the passenger list indicates that Giovanni Talamini was naturalized on November 17, 1921 in Bergen, NJ.
