SIRKO, SOLCO, SORCO, SCARCIO

Post by ProjectGal » 31 Jan 2019, 08:18

Andrew (Francis) SIRKO/SOLCO/SORCO/SCARCRO are the various anglicised variants of my 4xG grandfather's name. He was said to have been a mariner and married in London in 1798.

I understand that "K" does not exist in Italian. At his marriage in 1798, the earliest record I have for him, the two attempts at anglicising the name were SOLCO and SCARCRO. His son was baptised as SORCO (again in London) but was literate and used the surname SIRKO all his life. He gave his father's name as Andrew Francis SIRKO.

Is anyone able to suggest what his name was likely to be, please? Many thanks.
