Searching for my Grandfather Amerigo Biagi

Post by bsacco »

Here is a picture of my Grandfather Amerigo Biagi:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1awTGG ... zqgkcle6W-

He was born circa (1887 to 1897) in Lucca, Italy.

Does anyone know how start a search for someone from this town in Italy. I've been searching for some kind of online database of births in Lucca, Italy but have not found any.

If you have any information regarding who to contact to begin my search, please advise.

Ciao,
Bob

Hi Bob,
I spent my day for you! For your search! Very interesting!
I love the hard search…
I've seen on the web for a long time looking for your ancestor. I spent a little time to understand, very well, and then I started looking.
I don't think you'd ever find him alone!
Difficult searches, those that nobody answers I really like.
Well now you can finally correct your family tree online and enter the right data!

History:
Grisostomo (sometimes called, rightly, Crisostomo/Chrysostom) BIAGI was born in Lucca (Santa Maria del Giudice hamlet) on 23 July 1868, son of Americo (sometimes Amerigo) and Erminia De Ranieri..( for further detail to translate the Birth record)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043811
Grisostomo died in Marseille, on the bottom the Death note, but no most readable the date

Grisostomo BIAGI 29 old married in Lucca on 2 Dec 1897 to Cesira ( then called Cecilia) PISANI 21 old.
On the marriage record, the spouses stated that from their natual union a son was born on 17 Jul 1897, and it was no recognized at birth, so a foundling for the Commune, so the infant had name Amerigo and a fantasy surname, but in the marriage the spouses recognizing the infant as own child so from this time the his surname is Biagi

Amerigo TUORTI born in Lucca on 17 Jul 1897 #1005 from unknown parents. The Amerigo Tuorti was recognized as legitimate child, from Grisostomo Biagi and Cesira Pisani in the subsequent marriage, so his name now is Amerigo Biagi.

Then I found other child, but just 1 born in Lucca, the other born in Salon or Solon, France:

-Maria Ada BIAGI born on 9 Aug 1900 Lucca
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043811

-Maria Luisa Battistina BIAGI born on 17 apr 1902 in Salon, France. Birth filed in Lucca
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043811

-Adolfo BIAGI born on 23 Dec 1903 in Salon, France. Birth filed in Lucca also

I believe you can complete your genealogic tree also with Grisostomo siblings
here the ten index https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043811

Hoping helpful!
greetings from Italy!

Always amazes me how good these "pros" are here. These are great finds. I recollect seeing the Biagi surname in my intensive Lucca searching from several years ago (Capannori/Badia Di Cantignano/Vorno and also Gallicano).

Good job, suanj! :D

Hello all on this forum. Suanj is an amazing genealogist as evidence of what she found regarding my Great Grandfather BIAGI (see above thread). I would have never found it on my own. I highly recommend her service. Best, Bob

I believe that was my great great grandfather's record you saw : ) in Capannori/Vorno, that someone here was helping us with.

Oddly enough I came upon this reply, and its reference to our search, when searching completely out of the blue for Amerigo Biagi bc he was from Capannori, as was my grandfather, and his name came up on this probably questionable accuracy website https://www.houseofnames.com/biagi-family-crest. I thought you might find it amusing though as it lists:

Amerigo Biagi, aged 26, who immigrated to America from Capannori, Italy, in 1908

Also amusing given your great great grandmother then ks my great grandmother's mom ends up being a Cesira also, Cesira Pelosi. We have Pelosi cousins as well that he travelled here with so I knew the kind people here had found the correct record.

Good luck on your searches, perhaps we can compare what we find for fun.

If you happen to be traveling the area and you go to the village Badia di Cantignano, just east of Lucca, you will find an Abbey, and just west of that abbey a block or so there are homes with some Biagis on the nameplate. The last picture we have of my great grandfather was of all his siblings standing outside of they abbey, most likely after church on Sunday. Still how I most often saw my cousins regularly as a kid here in the US : ).

My wife's (paternal) great-grandmother was born in Badia Cantignano (1859): Maria Umiliana Cesira Pieri. She married a Pelosi.
