i believe theres an online birth index for the city of palermo, starting in 1820,the first year of civil registration. if someone out there is familiar with it,and could post a link, that would be great. looking for a possible birth in 1820 for salvatore landino(vincenzo & rosa amaro). thanks

thanks marty. i'm on the antenati website quite a bit,but i didn't realize this index was there. i should have known.i checked the year 1820 and found what appears to be salvatore's younger brother vincenzo born in 1829.but no salvatore. same parents. in different records, like his marriage to rosalia mancuso in 1839(age 19)the birth of his son, francesco,in 1851(age 31), all in palermo, and his death in new york in 1884 (age 63),his ages vary. doing the math,it seems he was born ca.1820-1821. but my bet is,he was born in 1819,which means he won't be found in the civil registration,as that didn't begin until 1820. i contacted the diocese in palermo, who in turn referred me to another source related to that diocese, for the baptism of salvatore,as well as his wife rosalia mancuso,a couple of years older, born ca.1816 or 1817. still waiting for a response there. and we know what its like getting parish records.my paternal grandmother is the sicilian. i've contacted the diocese in avellino many times for the baptisms of my paternal grandfathers grandparents, all born ca. 1775-1805,before the civil registration began there in 1809. he was the neapolitan. no response. and i tried for the baptism of another 2nd gg in messina, born ca.1818. nothing. thats why its almost pointless to try and access parish records unless youre onsite, can speak dialect, and related to the priest. thanks again.
