Looking for Salvatore Pennisi
Looking for Salvatore Pennisi
My grandfather, Salvatore Pennisi was born in Riposto (maybe Giarre) Sicily, May 29, 1887. I am searching for his birth records and parents, siblings. He worked and lived in Brooklyn most of his adult life. Thank you for your help.

Re: Looking for Salvatore Pennisi
I'm not 100% positive this is your guy, but very well could be, and this could give you some more search clues. You mention that he arrived 1902-1905. Often immigrants made one or more return trips to Italy, so you might see them arriving on multiple occasions. That said, there is a Salvatore Pennisi that arrived in New York on March 28, 1910 aboard the ship Duca degli Abbruzzi. He is listed as age 23 (putting his birth in about 1887), born in Giarre, and his nearest living relative in his home country is listed as his father, Rosario, of Giarre. He is shown as going to stay with his brother, Giovanni, 914 S. 8th St, in Philadelphia.

There is a Giovanni Pennisi in Philadelpha with a WWII draft record, shown as born 3/24/1891 in Riposto, Italy. That could be the brother in the record above.

Re: Looking for Salvatore Pennisi
Thanks, but I don't think that is him. The family never lived in Philadelphia. What complicates finding him is that there are more than two (probably more) Salvatore Pennisi's that came from Giarre/Riposto to the USA.
I did see the one you found, but dismissed it.
I found his WW2 record that shows him living in Brooklyn(249 President Street which I remember them living there into the 1960's), married to Louisa Pennisi, age 56, born May 29, 1887 in Sicily.
I found his Petition for Naturalization in 1914 with the same birthday, coming from Riposto, Sicily, living in Brooklyn (98 Sackett Street), having arrived in USA January 22, 1902 on the Canopike (Canopiki, Canopic) out of Naples. Louise's birthday is given as May 25, 1883.
Family folklore, says he had glasses, and was going to be sent back, but jumped ship.
I did find a ship manifest, the Cretic out of Genoa, which shows a Salvatore Pennisi, age 38 "rejected" coming in 1911 from Riposto. But that would make him too old for that date. He was around 24 years old in 1911.

Single status of Salvatore Pennisi, that cannot give the evidence to be unmarried in USA, because he was in USA from 1903 to 1910
