Definitely two different families. The two "Giovanni Marietta Aleina" had different dates of birth and different parents
As I have stated Giovanni and Maria had Giuseppe, 1862, Anna 1868, Maria Teresa (as found by rpl) 1871, Caterina 1874, Maria Maddalena (1878-1878) and then your ancestor Maddalena 1881
Possibly there was another child between Giuseppe and Anna, but italian civil records begin in 1866, so if you are interested you should write to the parish for the baptismal record

There are no other children of Giovanni and Domenica born in Coassolo. Possibly they went away (France?) soon after Stefano's. birth

Stefano appears as "Steven Marietta"in the 1900 US census (it's 99% the right one, according to the dob in April 1866) living with brother Domenico born July 1871

So this is another possible son of this couple

Here are Madalena’s siblings all born in Italy:
Giuseppe (Joseph) Marietta 1862-1936
Stefano Marietta 1866-1910
Michael Marvin Marietta 1870-1947
Dominic Marietta 1871-1911
Pietro Marietta 1876-1955
Maddalena Marietta 1881-1952
Theresa Marietta 1884-1962
Domenica (1844-1908) came to the States but Giovanni died close to the border of France. (1840 - @1888).
I have no names outside of the names listed here/quote]

I just reviewed the death certificate to Maddalena's older brother "Dom" and it attached here. (I also realized that on my original post I accidentally left him off the information I sent you - Dominic Marietta.) It states that he was born in France. This leads me to believe that Maddalena could have also been born in France too.

In addition to Dominic's certificate, I also located Peter's death certificate. It also shows France as birth place. https://i.imgur.com/Aw8ZQaq.jpg

Here's Madalena's death certificate and it has Italy listed as place of birth.https://i.imgur.com/Aw8ZQaq.jpg

I believe this Jean Marietta is one of the Giovanni Marietta-Aleina's you've been researching. (I found this record while searching geneanet.org.) This Giovanni died in Beaurieres, Drome, Rhone-Alpes, France on Sept. 27, 1887. Wife Domenica Vietti. Son of Stefano (Etienne) Marietta-Aleina. Perhaps other Marietta's for whom you are searching also lived in this general area?

I also concur that there are two Giovanni Marietta-Aleina families with two different Giovanni's. One married to Domenica Vietti, and one married to Maria Banche. I suspect they were "cousins" or at least friends and over time the families stayed connected. It would take some research using the online Coassolo records to tease out the families, but it is quite doable with time.

Good luck.

I am not sure why in Joseph Marietta's newspaper obituary it lists the siblings that I have including my GG. However, he has a different mother listed on his death certificate. Maybe because they were "cousins" that in the states they considered themselves close family? I am not sure. But I do agree that there are 2 different families.

Hi
Here is Madalena (Marietta) Vanzo's death certificate

Unluckily this death certificate has “mother unknown”.
But all the evidence gathered until now points to the fact that Maddalena Vanzo nèe Marietta was the daughter of Giovanni Marietta Aleina and Maria Banche Turinet , born in Coassolo February 17 1871, as stated in the birth record found by Pippo
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=970230
She was also the sister of Giuseppe, as stated in his obituary, and all Giuseppe’s documents are consistent on the fact that his mother was Maria (marriage, death, passport request)
Giuseppe’s obituary also states that his siblings (in addition to Maddalena), were two other sisters and a brother living in Italy. Domenico, Pietro, and Stefano are not named.

Domenico and Stefano are the children of another couple: Giovanni and Domenica Vietti. This is proven by Stefano’s birth record, Domenico’s death record and the census of 1900, when they were living in the same dwelling. Near them was also living a Pietro(Peter) Marietta
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AMMBV-6Z1

The two families were not directly related. Maddalena and Giuseppe on the one side and Stefano, Domenico and Pietro on the other had different grandparents. But they had certainly many ties. Giuseppe, Pietro and Stefano emigrated together in 1890 (this date is also consistent with the one that appears in Giuseppe’s passport request, and in the census for Domenico and Pietro)

Giovanni and Domenica had no other children in Coassolo after Stefano.

This great find is corroboration that Giovanni husband of Domenica died in 1887 in France.

Giovanni husband of Maria Banche (Maddalena’s grandfather) died in Coassolo Jan 22 1913

This is all very, very helpful. Thank you! Did you see any connection between Cabodi, Ramus, or Savant?

I have some Vietti-Ramus families in my file and several Savant families. Savant-Levra, Savant-Levet, Savant-Aleina. Is there some way to communicate easier? Is there a way to be notified if you have a response to a post? Grazie Al Cabodi
