Help Translating Please

Post by LuSiculu »

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to figure out the entries on the attachment for record number 20 and 21. I am trying to figure out who it says Maria Tomaselli's father was or where she was from or whatever information is there for her. I see filia.. and it seems to begin with an H but I just can't seem to figure it out. Any help is always much appreciated. Thank you!

Also on the marriage ban it says filia delli ospde grande?

As far as I can tell, the word that begins with an H is not a first name but rather the Latin word for hospice followed by the word magni (great). In the marriage bann, the abbreviation is for grand hospital in Bagheria (in Palermo). So my conclusion is that Maria was a foundling or abandonned child, and that's why she was considered the "daughter" of the particular hospital or institution in which she had been left and probably raised.

@erudita74
I agree
.... filia Hospitalis Magni .... = a foundling
