DeLuca/DeLuco - Leonilda

Post by rjlewl »

Hi,
I am also looking for DeLuca's. My ggrandmother was Leonilda DeLuca. I am not sure if this is the correct spelling of her name. We have several documents from the US and it is spelled DeLuco, DeLuzo, DeLuzio, DeLucia, etc.

She came to the United States in 1906 with my ggrandfather Bernardino Bolli. They entered through New York and went to live around Pittsburgh, Pa. One of the towns listed is Corapolis. They moved to New Jersey, and I found them in the 1930 Census in Penns Grove, New Jersey. She is listed as Merrina - don't understand why. I know where Bernardino was born in Montegallo, LeMarche. Leonilda died in New Jersey in the 1940's. She is buried in New Jersey.

Her mother's maiden name was either Dominca or Domenica.

I searched for DeLuco and found a Castle close to where my ggrandfather lived I don't know if she is any relation to this family.

I know her family had money and they were upset with her when she married my ggrandfather. He returned to Italy and died there in 1968. He lived in Acqusanta Terme. I think he had another wife and two sons.

Any help that I can get in where her family is from would be greatly appreciated.

They made several trips back and forth between the US and Italy. The list trip I found was in 1937 and it states that they were married in Milan, Italy in 1905.

A cousin thinks she was from Rome or North of Rome.

Does anyone have a suggestion or can you tell me how to go about trying to get a copy of their marriage license from Milan?

If anyone knows any information or is a relative, neighbor or friend I would greatly appreciate hearing from them.

Thanks,
Rose

If from Montegallo... could be Dominici (other ship records show Domenici)

Here are some Dominici's from Ascoli Piceno...

I looked at Bernardino's manifests and the town of origin looks like Montegello.....Can someone check this please.
The 2/26/1924 manifest shows him naturalized on 11/24/1920 in Pittsburgh, if I'm reading it correctly.

Hope this helps.

Hi jscm,

You are very welcome - I posted under the other DeLuca because I wasn't sure how to go about things. This was my first posting - thanks for bearing with me and helping me to get on the right track.

I was excited to see another DeLuca posting and asking for help.

Thanks for all of the information that you found. You found a few things that I have not been able to locate on my own. :o

Could you please resend the WWII Draft Card Information - when I opened the link it was a repeat of the WWI Draft Card.

Also, the 1920 Census information is something that I could not find. Can I ask where you located it? I can see from the image with their names listed that their accents were not understood by the census taker.

Should I post the corrections to the names, in case someone else is researching and finds this board?

I will look into the Dominici's. I am hoping to find something on the DeLuca's (or some variation of it) since that was her maiden name.

Once again a very big thank you!!!! :D

Take care,
Rose

Hi Rose & everyone,

Sorry, should have mentioned that I found the 1920 census at HeritageQuest online....the image shows a line going thru Bolli, Bennie so it looks like Botti......it maybe indexed @ ancestry under Bennie Botti.

As for WW darft card links, I'm getting "time outs" from ImageShack when clicking on links, but shows two different images when I check them @ Imageshack. Can someone please check links & relink if necessary. Thanks.

Wldspirit is correct....no LDS films for Montegallo!

When I had spoken to the Lds regarding future plans for filming in that Region, she stated they have a hard time getting permission from the church......I wonder if being a former Papal state has anything to do with it??

Hold the presses!

1930 census appears to show the actual town (not Montegello) in Italy that they were born in......Can someone read and identify it?
