Orero - 1836 Birth - Giuseppe Giovanni Arata

Post by Arata »

Hello! My family is just starting the journey of exploring our Italian origins. We are interested in locating birth records or baptism records (or any records and information at all) related to our ancestor, Giuseppe Giovanni Arata. We believe he was born in Orero (likely Croce based on family recollection) in 1836. Through helpful tips on this site, we looked through the Antenati website to explore Orero birth records. However, the scanned records begin at 1838; we are looking for 1836.

Does the lack of a scanned entry for 1836 mean the book is unavailable? Or is there another possible explanation?

What would be the best next steps to learn about this ancestor and obtain vital records?

Thank you for any help you can provide!!!

Do you know the names of the Giuseppe's parents? And his wife?

Hi - When researching my family, I like gathering as much information as possible. Here's the current distribution of the surname "Arata" in Italy:

http://www.gens.info/italia/it/turismo- ... P1MT-hKjIU

It's not a rare name, but is concentrated mostly in the area around Genoa. If you click on that area on the above map, it'll show you the distribution in Liguria. Comparing this to a more detailed map, it shows large numbers of the surname "arata" occurring in Genoa, the region around Ovada, and the district around Orero, as you suspected.

Unfortunately, we don't know the name of his parents. We do know that he married Lucy Ann Victoria Sourbier in the area of Adams County, Pennsylvania.

Thank you for any insight you can pass along.

Amazing, thank you! It's fascinating to see that distribution and get a bit of confirmation about our roots in that specific area.

In the certificate of marriage are not written the names of the parents of the spouses?

There are email addresses on the town website you could use. Sample letters can be found at Family Search.
