Hey everyone -
Alot of you have helped me on my search on my grandfather's side of the family - the bango's ...
but also I was searching for my grandmother in the census to look up information about her side of the family.. ( i know alot more about this side than the bangos).... so my grandma's name (maiden) is concetta strano.
Anyway I found a 1930 census record, with her and her parents angelo and josephine... But i have a question under the citizenship column... it says they arrived here in 1906... then another column for naturalization... but it looks to me like "Al"... does that mean alien? Maybe it doesn't say AL - what do you guys think and what does this mean?
Here is the link : http://content.ancestry.com/Browse/view ... rc=&zp=100
angelo strano is on line 67... and their children go down to line 77.
THanks!!!
question about a census record
Re: question about a census record
You are correct, AL is for ALIEN.....meaning they have yet to naturalize.

Re: question about a census record
Hi Again,
You can also try to write to Jefferson County itself for the naturalization records.
Here is the link of the Jefferson County, PA Historical Society. It seems they hold the Naturalization Records there.

Re: question about a census record
I am looking for Naturalization information on my Great Grandfather. I am not sure if he ever naturalized. He immigrated from Chiaravalle Centrale, Reggio di Calabria, Italy about 1900. He was born September 23rd, 1877 his name is Francesco Macrina(Macrino in some spellings) his wife was Filomena Macrina also from Chiaravalle Centrale. My grandfather was born in 1908 and I am trying to find the quickest way to trace whether his father Francesco was an Italian citizen or a US citizen at the time of his birth. Does anyone have any suggestions and a time frame if there is a quick way to finding this info?
By the way they settled with my Grt Grandfathers brothers in Herkimer, NY.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeremy, I have found your great grandfathers birth certificate. I was also born in Chiaravlle Centrale, it is in Catanzaro. His last name was originally Macri. It was common when they settled in the USA to change it. His parents were Paulo Macri son of Francesco and Maria Mauro, Here is the link https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043789
