Martinis from Province of Catanzaro

Post by naillady4jm »

I am on a mission of love.My mother is 81 and not in the best of health. She has lost her parents and has only two sibblings left that are older than she.She always said she wanted to do a family search. I decided to take this mission on.So far I know her dad,was born in Guardavalle on March 18th,1879 and died on DEC.26TH,1963, his name was AGAITO MARTINIS,son of NICOLO AGAITO AND Teresa Commetta.
Please,if anyone has info on them or how to find someone who does please help.I would be forever grateful.

Oh my God,I`m so excited. That is him and that is grand-mom listed as his wife.I have a U.S Social Security App and it has his signiture on it and it matched.I just called my dad to tell him and he was excited for us.I started to cry.Thank you so much.I don`t have anything else, except memories of his wine making and yard filled with grape vines. He diidn`t speak English and as a child,I just knew whatever he said,I would shake my head and know he loved me.Again thank you for making my seach happen.I`m so grateful.

Hello,
if you are interested to receive also Nicolò and Teresa marriage certificate or record, and Teresa birth certificate or record you can write a request in Italian to

Comune
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Via R. Salerno
88065 Guardavalle (CZ)
Italy

or you can contact Archivio di Stato di Catanzaro

or you can rent Guardavalle civil record microfilmto FHL (mormon church) nearest to you

If you need to write the request, tell me, that I make the transaltion for you, but be specific of what you really want or look for,
bye Riccardo

Helen,
Thanks for getting back with us.
Please let us know what your mother thinks!

------------------
re: Orazio on 1913 manifest
Mis-spellings were not unusual on manifests.
One possibility:
If the person couldn't read or write they couldn't
check the spelling of their name on the manifest.
Not sure what the 'americanized version' of your
grandfather's name would have been.
Perhaps a census will help.
------------------
possible brother:
1901 manifest
18 Mar 1901 SS California Naples to NY
line 25
Raffaele Martinis, 24, married
mason
last residence Guardavalle
joining brother Agazo Martinis in Philadelphia (same location as 1900 manifest)
