Guglielmetti Family in Novara (Piedmonte), Italy

Post by yolandag » 25 Jan 2007, 01:31

Hello everyone !!! :D

My name is Yolanda Guillermety from Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Around 1700's, my GGG Grandfather came from Novara, Italy to
Puerto Rico. His name was Juan Antonio Guillermety y Bartola.
His parents were Bartolome Guillermety and Ana Bartola, both from
Novara, Italy.

We know that when inmigrants came to the island through Cadiz or
Barcelona, Spain, they ussually changed some letters of their last
names so it will sound more "spanish" and easier to pronounce.
In that case my last name should be Guglielmetti.

I've searched for the Guillermety Family in internet and have not
found anything in Novara...but instead have found a lot of
Guglielmetti last name in that city.
So we are almost sure that his last name was Guglielmetti

On archives found in the San Juan Cathedral we have found that our
last name sometimes they wrote it ending in "i" with two "t"'s and
others with a "t" and ending in "y".

We think that Juan Antonio Guillermety y Bartola was born between
1740 to 1750 due the case that he got married in 1784 in San Juan,
Puerto Rico.
He ceased working with the Spanish Government in 1769.

Now, what we need to find out is if the names of Bartolome Guglielmetti
and Anna Bartola are in any archive of the church of Novara or where.
Maybe some of the Guglielmetti families that live in Novara today know something about his ancestors that will help us find our roots.

If you find something about this I will be very gratefull.
