Can you be more specific? By providing as much detail as possible it will enable those willing to help.....Did this family stay in Italy? Did they leave for another destination? Are you interested in Italian records or the country of destination? What records have you obtained so far?

Thank you for your reply, I am rather new to all of this. Raffaele came to the US 19 May 1899, I have information after he came to the states. He settled in West Virginia then moved to Gary, Indiana where he died 1933. Raffaele married Caterina Armocida, who was born 1876, she came to the states about 1905,she also died in Gary, Indiana 1933 . A son, Ilario born 1896 came with her. I would like to know if they had other children in Italy: perhaps that had died before coming to the states. I am also interested in knowing if Raffaele had siblings who also moved to the states. Raffaele and Caterina are my grandparents. None of my aunts or uncles had (they are all dead including my father) any knowledge of their parents life in Italy, none were taught to speak Italian. When my father was enrolled, his oldest brother inrolled him with the last name of Valentine. Raffaele never changed his name from Valenti to Valentine.

:D Thank you, yes this is the correct family. The closest Family History Center to me was 30 miles, however, it has closed. The next closest is 100 miles, I live in a very rural area. Where was the family in 1910? I was told Raffaele came to the states with a cousin, they were going to New York, I have not been able to locate him on the 1900 census. Valerie

The eldest son, Larry, confirms birthplace of Calabria on his WW 1
draft registration.
Since the family history center is so far, you can write to Italy for records.
However, Vj is correct, the last residence and the town of birth may not be the same.
Wouldn't hurt to send for a birth or marriage record, and see where it takes you.
Fred and Catherine were married about 1895, with Larry's birth in 1896.

Here is an interactive letter which you can use for your request:

Thank you very much for the information, the sites were interesting, I shall spend more time looking at them. Shouldn’t Raffaele be on the 1900 census?

The death of Ralph Valenti is my uncle. This is what someone send me about Raffaele: He came to the states 1899
He had paid his ship ticked himself and had 8$ with
him. He had never visited US before. His destination was New York,
where he had a cousin named Francesco, living on New Utrecht Avenue
62-44 (or maybe it was 62-64)

He didn't come to US alone. Together with him there were other 2
cousins. One was the brother of the Francesco they were going to
visit. His name was Eufemio Domenico. He was 34, married, a barber,
was able to read and write and had already been in US once.
The other cousin was , 22, single, country-man. Both
of them were from Roccella Ionica.

Shouldn't Raffaele &his cousins be on the 1900 census somewhere?
