Scarpella/Scarpulla/Scarpello/Scerpella/Scarpelli???

Post by Scerpella » 06 Mar 2007, 17:52

My own name Scerpella is actually Ticinese (Swiss Italian) Anyone have any information why we dont see Scerpella in Italy proper? And are these all variants of the same name? And does anyone have a clue as to what it means?

Scerpella turns up in marriage and baptismal records in Switzerland as far back as 1485 in that precise spelling.

I know Scarpe is boot, so theoretically Scarpella means small boot?
