stuck on proper spelling of name Borelli

Post by louis41 »

Hi Everyone!
I need your help again.

My great-grand-mother was born in or around Parma, Italy abt 12 Oct 1858. She was born Celestine Josephine Borelli or Borrelli. this is the big question, How was the surname spelled?

Her father's name was Joseph and supposedly he ran an Inn in or around Parma.

She married Luigi Ianelli, born in Berceto, Italy abt 1857.

She moved to Marseille, France with her husband Luigi and they had 6 children while there. Antoine Patience, Marie, Virginia, Amelia, Luisa & Augustine.

Luigi came to America in 1902 with some of the kids & Celestine & the rest of the children followed the next year and arrived 18 May 1903 aboard the ship La Champagne. She died in Phila, PA in 1951.

Can someone please find out the correct spelling of the surname and can you tell me when they were married in Italy.

Any info about her father Joseph would also be appreciated.

Thanks,

Louis

Thank you Suanj.
I know there are people in Berceto and Parma that spell it that way and there are also people there that spell it Borrelli with 2 r's. I need to find some record for her or her father to confirm how they spelled it. I only have the word of an aunt from 20 years ago that said it was spelled Borrelli with 2 r's, but I also have the word of another aunt that says it was spelled Borelli with 1 r. Don't know who is correct. The only document I have is my grandfather Antoine's birth certificate from Marseille France that has his mother's maiden name spelled Borelli with one R. Need one more doucument to make it official for me.

Thanks for your help,

Louis

In LDS(mormons) it are the civil records of Berceto
Registri dello stato civile di Berceto (Parma), 1806-1910 Berceto (Parma). Ufficio dello stato civile
and if you find the marriage act of your ancestors, you can see the right surname spelling... from what i know Borrelli(2 R) is of souther Italy; Borelli in the nothern Italy.....

Thats good info for Berceto, but if they followed tradition they were probably married in Parma, her home town. Can I access records for marriages in Parma and maybe find them that way?

Thanks,

Louis
