Interpeting Phone Number

[align=justify] This may seem silly. I received a phone number from Carlentini in the form 039950714 and I don't know how to dial this from the United States. I think the number may have been given to me wrong or in some Italian format (if there is such a thing). A number within the same complex, this is within the state archives, is 39095990540 - so this can be used for comparison. Does anybody know what is going on and how I dial the first number?[/align] Thank you.

That number it seems could even be a mobile phone number.

I have checked the area codes and 0399 or 03995 do not exist as land line codes.

But 039 DOES exist - see
>039 PREFIXES<
In which case you would dial 001 39 039.950.714

But bear in mind that most current mobile numbers are also in the 399 range - no doubt soon to arrive at 400xxxxx

I believe that to call this number (if it is a mobile No.) from the USA you would need to dial

001 39 039950714.

If you were dialling IN italy then just the 39950714 would be used.

But if you continue to have problems try getting advice from your local International Call Service operator.

095 is the prefix (area code) for Carlentini, and 39 is the international prefix for Italy.
To dial a number in Italy from US you have to dial 011-39-yyyxxxxx, where yyyxxxxx is the local number including the town prefix. (is 011 correct?)

095990540 is the number of Comune Di Carlentini Archivio Comunale, while 039950714 seems to be wrong or incomplete.
