Candelora or Lauria surnames Help plzzzz

Post by tjsinal »

I am looking for any information on the Lauria or Candelora surnames any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have been able to find the Candelora 1920 and 1930 census records for the Candelora surname. I do know that Giuseppe Candelora married Christina Delapizza prior to 1902 in Italy, and they were in the USA by 1908. Guiseppe died in approximately 1919 in a quarry accident. Christina died shortly there after she was struck by a automobile :( . The family lived in the philadelphia, pa area. and settled in Wayne County,pa Giuseppe and Christina both allegedly came from the Abbruzzi area.

The Lauria's came from Monte Corvine, Naples. There Names were Fracesco Lauria born abt 1874 Alphonsina :?: Oliveri abt 1878. Francesco according to family stories made a couple of trips to the US I beieve I have found his Manifest and he arrived april 5 1905. I can not find any information on Alphonsina's arrival she should have brought 3 children with her: Michael, Margaret, & Alphonsina reportedly in 1913. I have been able to locate this family in the Philadelphia area in the 1920 census.

If anyone has any information on any of the above family histories it would be grealy appreciated.

Thanks,
TJ

Hi TJ

I found the manifest for Alphonsina Oliveri and 2 of the kids, showing the kids last names as Lauria but their names are crossed off. I'll post it but I'm going to keep looking. Lines 26, 27 and 28. And it's a 1906 manifest.

Hi TJ

She and the kids are from Monte Corvine (that's what part of my search was based on). She lists her nearest relative in Italy as her sister Maddelana.

I'm still searching for Francesco Lauria's manifest as well as Candelora and Delapizza. Hoping to find something.

Nice find on the census info vj.

vj or Biff-
Can you pull any census info for Francesco's address in Philadelphia, PA. Per the manifest it looks like the address is 2010 Lippencott St., Phil. PA

Thanks to both of you for your help.

Possible Christina manifest. Son is Carmine, but could be Charles.

Dates are strange however,

First Name: Cristina
Last Name: Del Pizzo
Ethnicity: Italian
Last Place of Residence: Palombero
Date of Arrival: May 31, 1912
Age at Arrival: 27y Gender: F Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: L Aquitaine
Port of Departure: Havre
Manifest Line Number: 0027

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0027

On manifest it say 1902

VJ,

Does that 1910 census make sense? If Giuseppi and Cristina were married 22 years, she would have been 11 when they married.

Hey MJ!
You're right about the Ellis transcription, Castle Garden
has it correctly.
I'll bet they were married 12 years, not 22 (about 1898)
Valarie

Candelora
Cristina Delpizzo
Occupation Housekeeper Age 27 (abt 1875)
Arrived 1 Jun 1902
Origin Italy
Port Havre
Last Residence Palombaro (Chieti, Abruzzo)
Destination Philadelphia
Ship L'aquitaine
w/10 ms old Carmine

That makes so much more sense. I thought it said Carmine was 10 years, but it is 10 months old. That fits. Still looking for Giuseppi.
