I have a city, now what?

Post by k.renneker »

I found the city where my Cianciarulo family came from!

Benjamin Cianciarulo, born 9 Oct 1884 in Marsicovetre, Potenza (I got this from his WWII draft card)

His father is Angelo Cianciarulo b. 1865, his mother's name is Maria (I don't know anything about her)

I have all of the US stuff - census records and draft registrations, and passenger lists (except for the original immigration record in 1886 or 87)

Where do I go from here?

Thanks!

Kristen, congratulations :D !

Marsicovetere, province of Potenza, region Basilicata

The civil records for Marsicovetere, Potenza, Basilicata
are available on microfilm from your local Family History
Center.

You would need to go to the nearest center to order and
view the films. The cost is only abt $6.00 for 1 mos.
They will be in Italian, but most of us have used this
resource and have been able to noodle thru them with
practice.

Your other option is to write to the comune and request records.

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Marsicovetere
Via Costa Inferiore, 3
85050 Marsicovetere (PZ)
Italy

Your request should be in Italian. The following link will take you to Il Circolo Calabrese's interative letter generator. I'd ask for integral copies not extracts of his birth record (Copia Integrale dell'Atto di Nascita), his father Angelo's birth record, and his father's marriage record (Copia Integrale dell'Atto di Matrimonio). The marriage record will contain Maria's maiden name and her parents' names as well as Angelo's parents' names.

You're welcome, Kristen.

Make sure to let us know when you receive or find any information at LDS or from the comune. And don't forget we're all here to help should you have any questions or need help.
