Forame

Post by jwiilliams »

Does anyone know of the surname Forame? It is my mother's maiden name and I can not find out what it means. I also need help tracing my ancestry on the Forame side back to Italy. I know that they are from Roccalumera, Messina, Italy. His name was Frank Forame, born 13 Jan 1888 and he came through Ellis Island in 1905 and went to Washinton, D.C..

Thanks,
Jimmy

Yes! Thank you so much for this information. I now have a possible name for Frank's mother and his brother.

Could Salvatore on the 1912 manifest possibly be his brother Samuel that I know of?

Also this is important because I know that they changed the last name from Forame to Forami.

Thanks so much,
Jimmy

Thank you so much! Salvatore is his brother and I know this because I have always know of Uncle Sam and he taught my Great grandfather Frank Forame how to be a barber and on the manifest his occupation is a barber.

How do I explain the different last name of his mother? Is it her maiden name?

For some reason, many Salvatores Americanized their names to Sam. He could have called himself Sam or actually took on the name of Samuel.

Can someone help me read the mother's name? I can hardly make out what it says.

On Salvatore's manifest, I read the mother's name as Gppa (a possible abbreviation for Giuseppa or Giuseppina) Caminiti.
