Yes. Ugo is both a valid surname as well as a valid first name.

Ugo is actually a variation of the base name UGHI. There are several other surnames derived from Ughi such as Ughelli,ughini, ugotti etc.

The surname Ugolini is mostly found in Toscana region while the other variations are spread thruout the Northern and central parts of Italy.
Ugo is widely documented in the 9th century as Hugo, Ugo and Ugone and starting in the 12th century names such as Ughettus,, Ugolus,Ugolinus and Ugoccione started to show up. The name is mostly of French origin with Germanic roots. =Peter=
